Hey there,
I’m Elisabeth von Wedelstaedt and I have been living in the Bavarian Forest for my whole life. I was born in a small town called “Zwiesel“ in 2004 but I’m living in an even smaller place with roughly 3000 inhabitants. It is called “Frauenau“ and even thought it’s relatively tiny, I really like it. It’s my home. I’ve grown up in a big house with two older siblings, my parents a quite a lot of pets. We’ve always had at least one dog, a few rabbits and a some horses. Their stable is located directly next to our house, so we get to seem them whenever we want. Our house in embedded in a beautiful landscape, surrounded by forests, lakes, fresh air and all kinds of wild animals. In big cities, it is rather unusual for families to own a house, much less a big one,It is more common to live in apartments, where you may have one room for yourself, whereas in the countryside, it’s not unusual for people to live in their own house surrounded by a garden. This is really nice but I have to say that there are some downs to it as well.
Many places in the Bavarian Forest, in particular the small villages, don’t even have a train station and public transport in general is rather backward. If you want to go anywhere, you have to own a car if you don’t like the idea of waiting on the few existsing buses. Places like amusements parks or thermal baths are far away, so if you feel like going there you had better plan at least one entire day for this because otherwise it wouldn’t be worth the effort. So you see, the remoteness can be a problem here. To me, however, it’s the only problem and so I can say in all honesty that I’ve really enjoyed growing up here in the Bavarian Forest and don’t regret anything.
